The global recorded music market grew by 7.4% in 2020, the sixth consecutive year of growth, according to IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide. Figures released today in IFPI’s Global Music Report show total revenues for 2020 were USD 21.6 billion. Growth was driven by streaming, especially by paid subscription streaming revenues, which increased by 18.5%.

Advancement in analog-digial technology, such as audio card, microphone, speaker allows people easily get access to high quality digital music. For example, the advancement in recording techniques enabled user to record with reduced distortion.
The emergence and improvement of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) protocol allows computers, musical instruments and other hardware to communicate. Also, other advancement in silicon-related technology, such as faster CPUs with advanced architectures also enabled people to perform digital editing more efficient.
